Feedback
Willie Williams: "Very many thanks for the book which arrived this week. You are right to feel proud of it as it is a great achievement as well as a beautiful looking creation. I am very proud to be a part of it. Thank you too for the information regarding the web site and future plans. It is wonderful to have someone to document the creations of our industry, especially to the standard which you do and the breadth of subjects. I will certainly let you know of any projects which I am involved in & if I discover anything else I think might interest you. Very best wishes, congratulations and thanks again."
Mark Fisher: "Your book has just arrived. Thank you. It is very beautiful, and I am proud to see my work included."
Blue Leach: "Been meaning to email you for ages to thank you so very much for the book. It's superb. Of course I love the big colourful pictures, they're perfect for my low attention span! The passion and enthusiasm for your work comes through wonderfully. Well done, can't wait for the next one."
Hans Jürgen "Lauti" Lautenfeld: "Ich bedanke mich für die Übersendung Deines Buches "Stage Design". Da ist Dir ein großer Wurf gelungen. Kompliment."
John Offord: "Today I had the great pleasure of receiving your book! Thank you! On a first quick glance it looks absolutely magnificent, and brings the even greater pleasure of having your signature. I will take a close look this evening when I sit down and relax with my whisky and then prepare a review for the magazine next week. I will send that to you in due course. Meantime I expect you have seen that we have put the story of the book on our website at www.etnow.com under Production News (October 1st) and I hope this will help to promote sales. Thanks again, and best regards, and of course - well done!"
STAGE DESIGN by Ralph Larmann or the power of a moment
For the first time daab Publishing, specializing in illustrated books on design, architecture and photography, brings out in book form a photo documentation of widely impressive international stage productions: The book, STAGE DESIGN, by Ralph Larmann, a German author, photographer and journalist, documents thirty productions in the fields of concert touring, opera, theatre, special events, and tv-shows.
Vivid photographs having great emotional impact of the selected shows and productions are the essence of STAGE DESIGN. Larmann mainly focuses on the depiction of various stage designs in their entirety. Having a broad definition of stage, the author presents both the scenery details and the bare stage with aesthetic precision. Nearly all productions are set up in this way. The wide variety of stage perspectives and captured moments shown is so imperceptively woven in a single thread or as one thematic whole that even the people responsible for the productions or the people who have seen the event may not realize its wholeness. The range of events portrayed includes stage designs from classical theatres, brilliant operas, colossal tour productions or the illumination of a city’s skyline.
The coffee-table book STAGE DESIGN is the first of its kind to cover a wide range of stage productions. Not only is it a valuable object for art photography devotees; it is also a unique historic document and constitutes a veritable source of inspiration for everyone dealing with scenery, stage designs and shows. STAGE DESIGN draws its actuality from the fact that 27 of the projects portrayed have been performed between 2005 and 2007 or will be shown within the coming months.
The composition, perspective and brilliant colour of the captured scenes in STAGE DESIGN are impressive, spectacular and sensational. Details about name, location, date of the productions, as well as names of the persons responsible for set, stage, lighting, and video design are cited in the book.
Ralph Larmann has been an active photographer and journalist in the show, fair, and event business since 1989. As an author, he writes articles for music and specialist magazines, as well as for artists and publishing companies. Among others, Larmann’s exhibitions on event and concert photography have made him known to a wide audience. With the first edition of STAGE DESIGN he ventures into a new area of art documentation. In particular, he intends to set up a serial documentation of stage designs using his photographs built around a holistic aesthetic concept.
