A delusion is an unshakable belief in something untrue

1. a false belief or opinion about yourself or your situation
2. the act of believing or making yourself believe sth that is not true

Pictures lie. Nothing is what it seems to be. Interpretations determine reality. The several possible ways of interpretation are the starting point of this cross-media-performance, which approaches to the appearance as an audio-visual system of interactions. Projections and illusions turn into a changing stage for the performers. Self-perception and reflection get lost in the deliquescing space. Archaic and vanguard sound art, modern picture language and bodily accentuated free dance meet in a new constellation.

The interaction of reality and virtuality mirrors in the dramaturgy of the composition. Electronic alienations, traditional instruments and surround computer converge in five pictures. Material bound parts (metal-instruments, drums, etc.) of the exceptional percussionist Markus Hauke get in contact with the interactive software-systems of software-artist Frieder Weiß. By using special software-programming the musical integration of the into sound transformed movement of the performer becomes possible as well as the performers` dancing with their own self which multiplies itself in delayed time loops. Observed through an infrared camera the analysed reproduction of the self starts to multiply, the apparent self reflection control is questioned.

Virtual performers extend the ensemble. The interplay between human and technology combines the aesthetics of natural and technical information as far as manipulable perception movement.

EyeCon and Kalypso

„EyeCon“ and „Kalypso“ are two software programs by Frieder Weiß which were especially developed to be used in dance performances.
The “EyeCon”-Software uses the video pictures of the dancers to analyse their movements and to transform them into sounds by filming their motions which are then transferred onto the Computer. Lines, panels and other elements can then be drawn over the video picture. If a dancer now enters the marked area and a part of his body touches the drawn elements, it has the effect of for example creating a certain sound. But the software also makes it possible to record and abstract movements. That way a dancer can dance with its own delayed and multiplied shadow. Alternatively “EyeCon” can also measure the number of movements that occur in the marked panels and can even determine the position, the size and the height of the people in the marked panel.
The “Kalypso” program allows aesthetical transformations of the video pictures (which are recorded by several monitoring cameras installed around the stage) and the projection onto the dancers` bodies.
The processed video information is abstracted and alienated by special algorithms. This way body outlines, virtual shadows and other visual effects can be created.

the COMPANY

phase7 performing.arts is an independent artist network consisting of performing artists, musicians, media artists and computer specialists and additional specialized people according to the project.
Since 1999 we stage independent art projects with the use of newest technical developments as well as productions by the order of third parties. The main emphasis of our work is in the range of the interaction of language, music and dance extended by electronic systems to work on and modify motion and sound and their visual realization.
In our art projects we purposefully use mew media in interaction with conventional ways of representation. With our projects which range from dance performances, video installations, play and film projects to a new opera we are represented amongst other things at national and international Festivals, on the big stages and in the off-scene.
International event engagements for science, culture and economy have already taken us to Kuwait, Dubai, Argentina, France and Italy.
