About "Tosca In The Snow":

Ice-cold opera delicacies at Lech am Arlberg

Bregenz Festival and the Lech-Zürs Tourist Board present "Tosca In The Snow"

Bregenz, 15 Jan. 2007. To whet appetites in advance of the coming season, the Bregenz Festival will stage an outdoor performance of favourite arias from Tosca on a stage specially constructed from snow. Giacomo Puccini's Tosca is the opera on the Floating Stage in 2007/08. The ice-cold opera delicacies are to be served up on two evenings, 26 and 28 January 2007, at the winter sports resort Lech am Arlberg. Admission is free.

Opera preview on two evenings
It is the first time that a preview of the opera on the Floating Stage is being offered on two evenings. The event proved very popular in the past three winters, when several thousand spectators braved the cold in order to savour the best loved arias and melodies from Bernstein's West Side Story, Puccini's La Bohème and Verdi's Il Trovatore. The Bregenz Festival's "Tosca in the Snow" will therefore be given on Friday 26 January and Sunday 28 January. Floating Stage artists Tatjana Serjan (Tosca) and Carlo Barricelli (Cavaradossi) will sing a selection of arias from Puccini's opera thriller, including "E lucevan le stelle" and "Vissi d'arte, vissi d’amore". The show starts at 10 pm on both evenings.

Spectacle of light, fire and passion
The Bregenz Festival has been presenting a foretaste of the coming season's opera since 2004 while the stage set for the opera on Lake Constance is in hibernation. The opera highlights are performed open-air at the idyllic winter sports resort of Lech am Arlberg in Vorarlberg. In the next few days, several hundred cubic metres of snow will be heaped up by teams from the festival and the Lech-Zürs tourist office at the Schlegelkopf mid-station, and then fashioned into a stage according to designs by the festival’s head of décor, Florian Kradolfer. Fire and ice will decorate the stage sculpture, creating a genuine artwork bathed in the light of the mountain arena. In the last three winters, festival artists like Stephanie Krahnenfeld, Katia Pellegrino, Patrizia Patelmo, Katja Reichert and Christian Baumgärtel have performed highlights from the hit Floating Stage productions La Bohème, West Side Story and Il Trovatore in special shows combining light, fire and passion which have thrilled several thousand spectators.

"Combining the lake and the Alps"
"The first festival premiere at sub-zero temperatures has become an integral part of the festival calendar. Following the great success of our snow shows in past years we are very much looking forward to an artistic combination of the lake and the Alps – Bregenz on Lake Constance and Lech on Arlberg mountain – once again in 2007," says the commercial director of the Bregenz Festival, Franz Salzmann.

If the foretaste "Tosca in the Snow" whets visitors' appetites, there will be a chance to win tickets to the opera on the Floating Stage at this summer's Bregenz Festival.
